A New Doctor is in Town: Dr. Woods Shea Vision Castile Soap & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser

There are a lot of doctors in the natural skincare playing field (Dr. Hauschka and Dr. Bronner’s for example). But today I want to introduce  you to a US based brand that takes natural to heart, Dr. Woods Naturals. Creating their soaps and oils all in the US, Dr. Woods has some pretty darn pure soaps and now, my new favourite body wash…

Dr. Woods Peppermint Castile Soap

My first experience with Dr. Woods was with their Pure Peppermint Castille Soap. While it can be used for a facial cleanser, shampoo and natural cleaner (laundry, dishes, floors) but I mainly used it as my body wash. The peppermint is so pure it literally tingles my skin, my underarms have never felt like they sparkled before, but this soap does it. Also, there is nothing like peppermint to wake you up on those early mornings. It is so refreshing.

Because it is made with Shea butter (packed with natural Vitamin E & A) and olive oil, it is naturally moisturizing; however, the saponified oils and rosemary extract leave you feeling so clean. My mom even used this soap to clean her makeup brushes, and it worked beautifully.

The ingredients are pure:

  • Purified Water
  • Saponified Coconut, Hemp & Olive Oils
  • Organic Shea Butter
  • Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamine E)
  • Peppermint Oil & Rosemary Extract
  • Sea Salt
  • Citric Acid
And the best part? It foams wonderfully, if not better than chemically ridden products that use Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

Dr. Woods Daily Exfoliating Facial Cleanser

Jam packed with anti-oxidants and botanicals, this cleanser was a wonderful addition to my summer so far. While it is exfoliating, it doesn’t contain any granules or beads that lift skin, instead, it’s the star powered ingredients that lift the skin cells and help renew your skin all over.

This was a non-foaming cleanser, with additions including:

  • Black Soap – one of the most gentle exfoliating products for skin, which is great for blemishes
  • Organic Shea Butter – the super moisturizer and a fantastic combatant against facial lines
  • Extracts of Chamomile, Lavender, Tea Tree, Rosemary and Peppermint – soothing and conditioning on your skin
This was great for taking off the daily grime, and gentle enough for my mom’s super sensitive skin.
Again, a fantasticlaly affordable option for all natural beauties on a budget, grab an 8 oz bottle for about $7 USD on Amazon.
Welcome to the LPN bathroom cabinet, Dr. Woods!

I’m a huge fan of Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap, so Dr. Woods may be a good brand to try. Also, since it has shea butter, it may be a bit more moisturizing, which I prefer!

I love that this brand is PH balanced, much less drying than dr.bronners :) also does not contain the corrosive Sodium Hydroxide

    • So many good things about Dr. W :-) Let me know if you enjoy any other products they make! xx

Hey- as you can tell I’ve had a bit of extra time on my hands and am catching up on older posts :). Perfect timing in seeing this post because I was already looking for an alternative e to dr. Bronners to try out. Question- I checked out dr. Woods website but didn’t see any information on the owners and where they are based. Last time that was the case the company was shady and trying to abuse green product enthusiasts. Can you provide any more info on the company so I can feel safer in buying from them? Thanks!

    • Hey Lauren!

They are based in the US and actually make the product there too. Some ingredients (organic and fair trade) are sourced around the world, however. :-) xx

Thanks! I actually gave them a ring today just to hear from them what they had to say about their product line. They were so nice and helpful and found a place locally for me to pick up their products rather than mail order. I have already picked up the black soap facial cleanser and can’t wait to use it. For others who might come along and read this post- the sweet lady at Dr. Woods said a day doesn’t go by that they don’t get a phone call from someone who says the black soap cleanser has cleared up their acne. I only get a few now and again these days- but I like the sound of that. :)

Ok so I’ve tried this black facial soap as well as a couple of others. I really liked Dr Woods as it was gentle and soothing. However, my favorite black soap so far is Osmia Organics. It’s just awesome. And I’m not sure that getting the squeaky feeling is a plus but I definitely have that feeling when I am done using it. For some reason its just very refreshing. Love it and highly recommend to others.
