Best Natural Foundation – Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Review

I’m back for a few days before taking off again, but before I go, I thought it was essential to get a few beautiful gems posted in the blogroll. My first massive beauty find occurred while in Las Vegas last month: the most gorgeous HD foundation that contains NO artificial colors, fragrance, petroleum based minerals, phalates, GMOs or parabens. Koh Gen Do‘s High Definition Aqua Foundation SPF 15 PA++ (PA++ stands for the amount of protection against UVA rays. For reference PA++ is adequate for daily protection).

Koh Gen Do products are made in Japan, with high quality ingredients. Seawater minerals and white birch sap extracts are added to keep the skin both hydrated and radiant. Also, the fact that the formula is pH balanced makes it great for all skin types – from dry to oily. I’m also a lover of the fact that a high proportion of the foundation’s content is mineral and nutrient-rich, so my skin feels well nourished. Not bad for a foundation, wouldn’t you say?

Ingredients:

While there are a few ingredients that are not natural, the overall composition is both safe and effective (scoring a low ranking on the EW Group’s Cosmetics Database). Before coming across the Aqua Foundation, I thought finding a HD foundation that was free from some of the major “no no’s” (parabens, for one), was going to be next to impossible. Needless to say, Koh Gen Do’s Aqua Foundation came to the rescue. The foundation goes on beautifully, giving medium coverage that you can build. The composition of 45% water, 35% emollients, and 20% powder make it buildable, without the creation of “cake-face”. Further, the light-diffusing layer (aka what makes it HD) helps minimize pores and other imperfections, leaving your finish looking near flawless.

If I had to make any complaints, my main qualm would be about the limited color selection. Having fair skin, I usually have a difficult time making sure things aren’t looking too orange in the daylight. I managed to match relatively closely, but no perfectly – I’m currently using PK-2. Regardless, the fact that it absorbs quickly without any trace of its existence more than makes up for this.

Where to Buy:

You can find Koh Gen Do’s Aqua Foundation for about $62 CAD for 30 ml. While the distribution isn’t exactly global at this point, there are still places you can find it online – including Sephora. Hope you get your hands on this and love it as much as I do.
