Cleanse like a Queen with May Lindstrom: The Clean Dirt & The Honey Mud Review

Today my post is for the natural beauties that live for luxury. It is for those that love the packaging, the efficacy and the rituals of products from the “Crème de la Mer’s” of the beauty world, but would like to do without the chemicals. When it comes to luxury and efficacy in skincare these days, no one seems to do it better than May Lindstrom. May and her products are recreating the way us women think about skincare. Why should it be a rushed, mass produced endeavour? There is no beauty in chemically-ridden brands that market on a woman’s insecurities. May has put the beauty back into the traditional rituals and decadence of true skin “care”.

As true natural beauty herself, May is on a “quest to inspire loving self care rituals, reveal radiant skin and ignite recognition of our individual beauty.” As far as I’m concerned, she is well on her away to accomplishing her dream – all while keeping the environment a top priority.

As you beauties well know, I have a soft heart for good branding and marketing – in addition to the obvious requirement for brilliantly effective products and clean ingredients. What May has done is taken the most pure and effective ingredients and combined them into youth sustaining yet luxurious powerhouses.

The Clean Dirt

We’ve briefly chatted about Ayurvedic cleansers here, and here, so you shouldn’t be too unfamiliar with the idea of “cleansing with dirt”. However, if this idea is new to you, do not fear! We have the answer to “Why does cleansing with dirt work?” Well, think of a clay mask. We use these types of masks to pull out impurities in our skin. Not only are these clays, muds and spices clarifying, they are also packed with minerals and nutrients that are effective for skin cell regeneration and healing. The texture of the clean dirt is also what helps encourage microcirculation in the top of your skin – it acts as a microdermabrasion.

May’s Clean Dirt is a combination of healing clays and mud as well as healing exotic spices.  It smells like a divine cinnamon spice, making it a warming and tingling cleansing experience.  The combination creates a beautiful cleanser that leaves your skin feeling fresh and revived.

A great detoxing cleanser for all skin types, but sensitive skinned gals be warned the warming action may irritate some with hypersensitive skin.

To Use:

I’ve put together my first ever LPN video to help demonstrate how to use May’s Clean Dirt for cleansing. Watch below:

It’s quite simple and just requires 1 tsp of the dry dirt powder and ~1 tsp of water, added to the powder drop by drop to create a paste. Combining in the palm of your hand creates the texture you need to begin your exfoliating cleanse. Massage your face in a circular motion, rinse with warm water.

Where to Buy:

May Lindstrom’s The Clean Dirt retails for about $60 USD. Shop The Clean Dirt from a variety of online shops:

The Honey Mud Cleansing Silk

A cleanser that doubles as a nourishing mask? Oh yes! This uber-gentle and luxurious cleanser is a must-have for all beauties wishing to be kind to their skin, while nourishing and hydrating all while removing impurities. I used this product as both a cleanser and nourishing mask and have to say it’s up there with the most luxurious products you will find in any beauty department.

While there is dirt involved in this beauty potion, there is also a lovely addition of moisturizing and nourishing honey. We chatted a bit about the beauty benefits of honey a few weeks ago, so head back to this post if you would like some more information on that. Raw Honey, White Halloysite Clay, Witch Hazel and Macadamia Nut Oil are just some of the star ingredients in this jar of goodness.

The Honey Mud is best described by one of my favourite natural beauties, Garcy of Eco Diva Beauty, who surprised me with this gorgeous product as a Christmas gift. <3 She equated The Honey Mud to “the Problem Solver’s gentler sister”, making this a perfect product for all skin types, including sensitive skinned beauties. You will find The Honey Mud to be a dream product, with which you can cleanse, hydrate and nourish the skin. Take it from a woman her knows her natural beauty, this pretty pudding will make your skin glow.

To Use as a Cleanser

Take a dollop about the size of an almond on your hand, and massage in circular motion onto moist skin. Massage for 1 – 2 minutes (I found 60 seconds to be sufficient) to lift dirt and makeup from your skin, then rinse with warm water.

To Use as a Mask:

Apply liberally to a clean face. Leave on for 15 – 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

Where to Buy:

May Lindstrom’s The Honey Mud retails for about $80 USD.
Find it online at the following boutiques in your country.
US & Canada: Eco Diva Beauty
South Pacific: I Am A Natural Store
Europe: Norway & Scandinavia – Pure Skin
Europe: Germany – Amazingy

What better way to treat yourself after the hustle of the holidays than detoxing your skincare regime with a brilliant cleanser (or two ;-).  There are worse things to indulge in, after all.

Wishing you a brilliant start to 2014, you radiant souls!

I am totally in love with May’s clean dirt and problem solver. I can’t believe how much better my skin looks since I started cleansing with the clean dirt, and I was already using some high end natural beauty products. The first time I used the clean dirt an acne mark that if had for months peeled right off and left clear healthy skin behind. Been using it faithfully ever since.

    • I have yet to try her problem solver, Juliea, but I very much plan on it! Her products are just wonderful. So glad you’ve had such great results with the Clean Dirt! xx

    Where does Mary source her

    • Most, if not all of May’s ingredients are wild harvested and/or fair trade certified (when ingredients are sourced from places that require fair trade policies). She sources her ingredients from truster vendors. It really depends on the type of ingredient you’re looking for, different ingredients come from different places. Her ingredients are: “organic, biodynamic, wild crafted, cruelty free, vegan and sustainable.” xx

Started using all May Lindstroms products. They are different but amazing! The Good Stuff is so lovely. As well as the Clean Dirt, Honey Mud, Youth Dew, and Problem Solver. My skin glows and is rosy. I recommend them!

    • Love it Jenna! Thanks for sharing. So wonderful you’ve had such a good experience. I’ve been hearing lots of good things about Blue Cocoon, so that’s on my list :) xx

Hello, I am new to your site and I must say that I am very impressed with the quality of products you have reviewed and recommended. I am also very appreciative of your feedback, advice and suggestions. That being said, there are so many wonderful products & lines that it’s impossible for me to decide what is best for my skin type and concerns. I’m 40 years young and live in Chicago (where it’s -20 one day and 60 degrees the next). My skin is very hormonal and I always get cystic and bad acne during that time of the month. I have combination & dehydrated skin. It’s not necessarily oily, but certainly not dry. Always dull and congested. I love oils as moisturizers. If you don’t mind me asking, what cleanser, oil, etc would you recommend for my skin type? Thank you for creating this forum.

I’m reading this a while after you posted it, but I am wondering if you’ve tried her problem solver mask? If so, what did you think? Thank you!

I love honey products. I’ve even started to order Zen Honey Soap. :)
