Facial Oil Feature & Natural Anti-Aging Fave: Rose Oil

Aging is something I’ve been worrying about since the ripe old age of 18. I believe that was my first purchase of anti-aging cream. Now in my mid-twenties, sadly, I actually need it. Unfortunate thing, time.

With all that being said, I’ve hunted high and low for something that works miracles – and have been hard pressed to find much. I’ve gone so far on both sides of the spectrum: Creme de La Mer to – brace yourself – Vaseline. But when it comes down to it, nothing really works…well that is until I started using Rose Oil every night before bed.

Oily Misconceptions

Many people think putting oil on your skin is going to cause breakouts – it doesn’t if your skin is clean before you slather it on. In fact, I’ve actually found that rose oil helps to combat zits (but not severely acne prone skin).

Rose oil can come in many different forms – and obviously putting 100% rose oil on your skin would probably burn and cost you a fortune, but a natural rose oil blend for your night time moisturizer may be the answer you’ve been looking for.

What’s the Deal with Rose Oil?

It is the Queen of oils when it comes to anti-aging (which makes sense, given that roses are Queen of all the flowers). You will be hard pressed to find an anti-aging facial oil without this key ingredient. Why does it work? Rose oil (particularly Mosqueta versions) is perfectly balanced between the omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids (EFAs) – essential in keeping skin hydrated and firm. Further EFAs help to eliminate damaging and aging inflammation while also renewing cell membranes and regenerating the skin (an anti-aging key). It also contains Transretinoic acid (a form of Vitamin A) responsible for skin smoothing wrinkles, rejuvenating skin, as well as lightening age spots and stretch marks.

My Fave at the Moment

I found this particular one for 14 Euros in France at a local Naturalia, but you can find similar formulations in your local health food store. I would pay around $15 – $25 CAD for a decent formulation of 30 ml.

If you’re based in Canada or the US, you may have better luck finding versions such as Aubrey’s or an alternative which includes rose, almond and jojoba oils (and is also a bit more pricey) you could try Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Facial Capsules.
