The Best in Natural Baby Products: Review on Organic Baby Products for the New Mom

Today, my loves, I have for you something a bit off the beauty path, but equally as important on the natural path. With some of my nearest and dearest best friends having babies right now, so it seemed like a good idea to collaborate with them to test and trial natural baby products. Over the past few months, one of my beautiful best friends, Michelle, took on the task of trialling natural baby products on her precious 1-year-old to compose a review for you here on LPN. Her and Madison (who just had her 1st birthday – Happy Birthday Little Love!) are to thank for this post, and I hope all you new mommas and moms-to-be enjoy it.

I know my readers are already concerned about what they are putting on their own skin, and I expect that this concern is amplified with their little ones.

Looking forward to hearing your comments below — and hearing about other brands and products you have found on your natural baby products hunt.

Lots of Love,

K

Maty’s All Natural Baby Chest Rub

414oAbFyuiL

When my daughter came down with her first cold, it was heartbreaking hearing her cough throughout the night and listen to her loud breathing from the congestion. As I try to use only natural products on my daughter, I found it to be very difficult finding natural remedies that you can safely give your sick baby. Then, I had the wonderful opportunity to try Maty’s All Natural Baby Chest Rub on Madison. Not only did this product smell wonderful, but it also helped relieve Madison’s cough and congestion. In particular, I found it to be the most effective in alleviating Madison’s nighttime coughing and congestion which is VERY important for my own beauty sleep!

Maty’s All Natural Baby Chest Rub smells of lavender and chamomile which in itself has a soothing effect. It has a smooth texture that allows you to easily massage it on to your baby’s delicate skin and does not leave a greasy residue. Also, I love how each product includes a “Maty’s Mom’s Tip” for the user. The tip for this product is to massage the baby chest rub to the bottom of your baby’s feet. I put socks on top of Madison’s feet for an even better effect. Overall, I found this product to be a great natural option for soothing a congested baby. *Just remember that it can only be used on babies that are three months or older.

Ingredients:

sunflower oil, coconut oil, castor oil, shea butter, chamomile essential oil, dill weed essential oil, lavender essential oil, eucalyptus radiate essential oil, coriander essential oil, patchouli essential oil, candellila wax, vitamin E

Maty’s All Natural Baby Ointment

Matys-Baby-Ointment

As I use cloth diapers, I am always in search of different natural diaper creams that are not only safe to use on my cloth diapers, but that also protect my baby’s bottom. Maty’s All Natural Baby Ointment is a safe product to use on cloth diapers AND it does an amazing job of protecting your baby’s bottom from those nasty diaper rashes.

I feel comfortable using it with every diaper change to protect my daughter’s bottom as it is a completely natural product that resembles the natural oils of the skin. It works by creating a moisture barrier on your baby’s clean and dry bottom without leaving that heavy greasy residue. “Maty’s Mom’s Tip” for this product is to use the ointment on mommy’s skin too which I have done on numerous occasions to help nourish my dry hands. I even used it on my daughter’s cheeks after she got a bit of wind burn from the cold weather. This is a great product to have in your diaper bag to not only protect your baby’s bottom, but to use for other skin related dryness or redness for both mom and baby.

Ingredients: olive oil, coconut oil, beeswax, jojoba oil, & vitamin E

Pure by She She Baby Bottle Wash

When I started to give my daughter a bottle, I noticed that my regular dish soap would leave a slight residue on the inside of the bottle. So, I was really excited to try the Baby Bottle Wash from Pure by She She, as it was a safer and non-toxic option to use on my baby’s bottles, sippy cups, and dishes. Not only did I love that it cleaned my baby supplies and left no residue, but that it came with a foaming nozzle that was so easy to use when you only have one hand most of the time!

All Pure baby products are plant based, vegetarian or vegan, earth friendly and cruelty free. As a mom, I feel more secure knowing that I am using a safe and non-toxic soap on my baby supplies.

Ingredients: saponified organic coconut, olive and jojoba oils, vegetable glycerin, organic aloe vera and organic rosemary extract

Pure by She She Baby Wash & Shampoo

I was amazed at the effect that the Pure Baby Wash & Shampoo had on my daughter’s skin. My daughter has small reddened bumps on her cheeks and legs which she gets from my side of the family. I tried several different baby washes but none seemed to have an effect on my daughter’s skin. After trying Pure Baby Wash & Shampoo for a couple of days, I noticed a big improvement in my daughter’s skin.

This product comes in a lavender scent, a sweet orange scent, or unscented. I tested the sweet orange wash and I loved the fresh smell. It was a mild scent that left a hint of orange smell on my baby’s skin and hair. After each bath, I found my daughter’s skin and hair to be fresh, clean, and smooth. Also, I should mention that I love how this product came with a pump. When you are trying to bathe a baby on the move, it is very challenging to use soap products that do not come with a pump. I could easily hold my daughter with one hand and pump the wash out with the other.

This formula is not tear free because Pure does not use chemical numbing agents, so care must be used around your baby’s eyes. With that being said, we have never had a problem with our baby when she got a bit in her eyes. Overall, this is a great product for sensitive skin.

Ingredients:

Sweet Orange:  Saponified organic coconut, olive and jojoba oils, vegetable glycerin, organic guar gum, organic orange oil, natural essential oils, organic aloe vera and natural rosemary extract

Earth Mama Angel Baby Organics Shampoo & Body Wash

EMA-00093-7

I used some of Earth Mama Angel Baby products when I was pregnant with my daughter and I absolutely loved them. Needless to say, I was thrilled to have an opportunity to try their baby products. I tried both the Angel Baby Shampoo & Body Wash and the Angel Baby Lotion in the natural orange vanilla scent and did it every smell heavenly. I honestly felt like I was giving my baby a spa treatment whenever I used them. Also, both of these products left my baby’s skin and hair feeling super soft.

Ingredients:

Organic aloe leaf juice, organic olive oil, organic rooibos extract, organic calendula flower extract, kosher vegetable glycerin, organic shea butter,  Olivoyl hydrolyzed oat protein, cetearyl alcohol, glyceryl oleate, glyceryl stearate, organic vanilla fruit extract, organic sweet orange, xanthan gum.

Again, I love how the Baby Shampoo & Body Wash comes with a pump AND that the wash foams! The foamy solution is way easier to control in your hand when washing that moving baby. It should be noted that this product is not a ‘no tear’ formula so extra care should be made around your baby’s eyes. There have been a few occasions where the wash has gotten into Madison’s eyes, but she never complained.

Ingredients:

Organic potassium cocoate, organic potassium olivate, organic aloe leaf juice, organic vanilla fruit extract, organic sweet orange, kosher vegetable glycerin, potassium citrate, organic shea butter, organic calendula flower extract

Angel Baby Oil

Before I had Madison, I read a lot about the importance of infant massage. I found the Angel Baby Oil to be perfect for not only massaging my baby’s delicate skin, but nourishing it as well. It virtually has no scent so it is perfect to use on a newborn. I love how it absorbs so nicely into Madison’s skin without leaving a greasy residue. It also did a great job at keeping Madison’s skin soft and hydrated. Also, it comes with a pump which made it very easy to pump oil onto my hands while my daughter was squirming around on the floor. This item has been a staple for me in bonding with my daughter during her nightly baby massage.

Ingredients:

Grape seed oil, organic jojoba seed oil, organic calendula flower extract

Lina Hanson’s Global Baby Serum

lina-hanson-global-baby-serum-z

While Lina Hanson’s Global Baby Serum didn’t make it over to Michelle and Madison (given that we’re across the Pacific ocean from one another), I wanted to highlight it as another brilliant product for baby and infant massage. Not only can you use it on your little one (even newborns), you can also use it on yourself to prevent stretch marks, help heal stretch marks and use it on your belly to soften the skin. It’s the perfect all around serum for momma and baby through all stages of pregnancy and infancy.  I have been using this on my body as the ingredeints are so pure and because there is no scent, it doesn’t affect any natural fragrance I might be wearing.

Ingredients: watermelon seed oil, safflower oil, jojoba seed oil, sunflower seed oil, camelia seed oil, apricot kernel oil, rape seed oil, non-gmo tocopherol (all certified organic)
