Natural Hair Removal & Silky Skin: BodyHonee, Matarrania & C&Co Naturals Reviews

During the winter, I find it a little easier to let my leg hair get long enough for a wax. The problem with removing hair with the drugstore products (and even spa products, for that matter) is that they often contain toxic ingredients. Everything from chemicals that literally dissolve your hair, to the chemicals in that foamy shaving cream. And waxing, well wax often contains mineral oil, parabens, artificial fragrance compounds, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHT) and artificial colours. Needless to say, there has to be an alternative — and there is!

It’s been a cold January here in Oslo, so I thought it was a good time to test out some hair removal products. Here are two that I’m loving, and a finishing oil that you will LOVE for these winter months.

BodyHonee Review

Body Honee is an amazing product – with three effective ingredients: sugar, salt and lemon. That’s it, that’s all. The sugaring kit is just what a natural gal is looking for when it comes to taking off unwanted body hair. It comes 10 waxing strips, 2 spatulas and 250 grams of water soluable product. The wonerful thing about BodyHonee is that you can rinse it off without problem. If it gets on your towels, no problem. It’s a quick rinse to remove excess from the skin and from the spatulas, so you can resuse them later.

To Use:

*First, ensure your hair is at least 1/4 of an inch long.

To warm up the product, I set enough water in the bottom of an old pot to come up the edge of where the lid would stop (see below). I then brought the water to a boil, and turned it down to low. I set the product in the pot with the lid off and allowed it to melt down to the consistency of honey. This took about 5 – 8 minutes. You can use a microwave, but I recommend staying away from the excess radiation and following this method.

After the product’s consistency was honey like (runny and stick) and not too hot, I took it out of the pot and began to apply a thin later in downward strokes on my legs. Apply the wax strip overtop of the wax, pressing in downward strokes in the direction of hair growth. As with waxing, you should hold the skin taught and pull off the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth. Voila!

Matarrania Warm Body Oil Review

After removing hair by sugaring, it is nice to give the legs a quick rinse with water to take off excess product, and finish your treatment with natural body oil. One of my favourite body oils this winter has been Matarrania’s Warm Body Oil.  I seriously LOVE it. The blend of cinnamon, clove and ylang ylang make for an intoxicating and warming oil that is wonderful on the skin, especially in the colder months.

The oil is 100% organic, natural and rich. The quality of the oil is beautiful and nourishing. The main oil is olive oil, and it is blended with other nourishing cold pressed oils including almond oil, sesame seed oil and sunflower oil.  These vitamin packed oils are wonderful for irritated skin (especially after waxing), and the cinnamon and clove oils are naturally antibacterial, which is great after you’ve exposed your skin to a sugaring treatment.

The product comes in glass bottles (*note: it is no longer sold with a pump, as is shown in the picture), and has zero preservatives. Nothing but high quality goodness in this bottle.

Shaving Oil by C&Co Naturals

Ok, but what about for those girls that shy away from “letting it grow” and prefer the shaving method? I have the perfect remedy for that icky chemically-ridden shaving cream: shaving oil! C&Co first came onto my radar with their solid perfume oil, that you can find on this post here. One thing that I love about this company is that everything is handcrafted in small batches at their home in North Carolina.

To Use

The shaving oil works by first shaking the bottle to blend the oils, then simply dampen your skin, put a few drops on your palms (yes, a few drops will do – meaning this bottle could last you up to a year, depending on how often you shave), and rub onto the area you’re shaving like you would any other “shaving cream”.

After you’ve shaved, simply rinse and pat dry. The oil will leave your legs feeling silky smooth, even if you choose not to put any additional product on them after showering. It’s the most nourishing shave you can get! The ingredients are pure: organic olive oil, organic grapeseed oil, organic jojoba oil, organic vegetable glycerin, juniper berry & lavender oils. Just the perfect blend for smooth skin.

Watch out, however. The lavender and juniper berry scent might entice your significant other to start using the product – such has been the case at my place. :)
